Found it!

I think I have found the theme that works for right now.  Not exactly what I wanted, but hey - what is life without a little change of plans?

Politics and Heroes

May 21, 2007 in Politic-y

First - Watched the season finale of Heroes and WHOA! Way cool. Don’t want to spoil anything, but da-amn… I can’t wait for more.

Been thinking more about politics. Specifically the current political environment in our country and the world. Several days ago I had a conversation with my friend Conrad about politics and the constitution and some of it has been rattling around in my head ever since.

I was thinking about the constitution and current events. Our current environment is not good, no matter what the news says. It could be worse, granted, but it is hard sometimes to see what the people in power are doing and not want to speak out about it. After thinking about what the intent of the constitution was, and how the system works I do take solace in one thing. Even G. Washington was disgusted with the system.

No system of government is perfect, because people aren’t perfect. I think the fundamental problem is one of control and power. If one “party” gets control of the whole government then things that are only their best interest are bound to happen. A system which allows for more diversity and balance of both internal and external powers is really the trick. The parliamentary system is interesting, but I doubt that the US citizen is even willing to admit that our system has flaws - let alone be willing to try and change the way our country works for the benefit of the world. I don’t think I am blowing things out of proportion by saying that either. With the current state of weapons and technology - what our country does effects the entire planet. Perhaps we should think more about that.

Internet 2

May 19, 2007 in Technobabble

In class today we had a discussion about Internet 2. To be honest, while I knew about the topic, I hadn’t really thought enough about it to form a real opinion until we were in class.

The very idea that big companies could buy packet priority for their products and services makes me feel ill.

The Internet needs to stay as it is - uncontrolled. Even amidst the hum that exists as a constant distraction on the web with spammers, scammers, and poorly designed pages - there is a lot of good that exists. I firmly believe that the internet has caused much of our modern social change. Freedom of speech has never been so real. And the nature of the current internet allows for “the little guy” to compete with the “big evil” corporations.

I am not saying that Internet 2 is a bad thing. Far from it. I just think that Internet 2 should be a hardware upgrade that should happen all over the web and that the packet priority should be type specific and not provider specific. For example - make ALL email low priority, because a few dropped packets along the way will not make a huge difference. Also, make bit torrent and other such applications low priority. I really think that a standard hierarchy of priorities could be established that, once standardized on the net, would make Internet 2 as good as it can be without sacrificing the beautiful freedom it’s current incarnation gives us all.

A few moments of odd revelations

May 19, 2007 in Me

The last few days I have been messing around with WordPress trying to get things set up. In the meantime school has been moving along rapidly. Funny how time just seems to fly. Only a month and a half before I am done.

In short time I will be back at my parent’s house in TN getting my stone treated and will have to start looking for a job.

In thinking back on the 2 years since my departure from Atlanta there are certainly things I really miss. Many of them are people or social situations. Again an odd thing, because lately I haven’t really thought of myself as a social person. I suppose that is my inner Leo trying to escape.

Sidenote: Christ I got eaten up at the shoot last weekend, and I scratched the hell out of myself. I have wounds all over my body. I hate bugs.
